Motor Vehicle Excise Tax Bills Due

Fiscal Year 2021 Motor Vehicle Excise Taxes, Commitment #1, are due on Tuesday, April 20th. Bills were mailed on March 20th.

Payments received after April 20th will be subjected to 12 percent interest after the due date.

Taxpayers are asked to please include the Collector Copy (top half) of their bill with their payment. Payments should be mailed to the Town of Peru, Tax Collector, 3 East Main Road, Suite 101, Peru, MA 01235.

Payments can also be made online at www.townofperuma.com. Taxpayers that have questions on their bills can contact the Tax Collector at (413) 655-0072, Ext. 1 or e-mail taxcollector@townofperuma.com.

Taxpayers are reminded that if they have received a bill and no longer own the vehicle, they need to contact the Board of Assessors to file for an abatement. The Board of Assessors can be reached at (413) 655-8657, Ext. 4.

Motor Vehicle Excise Tax Bills that are not paid or abated within 30 days of the bill date will accrue interest at 12 percent per year and a Demand Bill will be issued. If a Motor Vehicle Excise Tax Demand Bill is unpaid after 14 days, the bill will be turned over to the Deputy Collector where additional fees and interest will be due. If still left unpaid, the taxpayer’s license and registration will be marked for non-renewal at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

Fiscal Year 2021 Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Bills

Fiscal Year 2021 Real Estate and Personal Property Second-Half Tax Bills were mailed on April 1st. Payment is due by May 3, 2021. As a reminder, the first-half bill that was sent in December was a Preliminary Tax Bill – it was based on half of the total tax from fiscal year 2020.

The second-half bill that was just mailed is your actual tax bill. This bill now shows your current valuation and the new tax rate of $19.21. Taxpayers that have questions on their assessment or wish to file an abatement should contact the Board of Assessors at (413) 655-8312, Ext. 4. The deadline to file an abatement is May 3, 2021.
