Creating a new Honor Roll

Creating a new Honor Roll

The Selectboard has endorsed the formation of a working group to consider a replacement for the Honor Roll on the Town Green.  We’ll be brainstorming new ideas and be responsible for making a proposal, developing costs and estimating a timeline for this work to be done.  Getting started now, while the ground’s still frozen, will give us some time to do some thinking.
A little history:  The first Town of Peru Honor Roll hangs in the Library.  It was dedicated in 1943 and the keynote speech was given my Major Alfred Ballou, a World War I veteran.  At that time the Honor Roll had only eight names.  The Honor Roll on the Town Green was erected in the 1980s and includes names of Peru’s sons and daughters who wore the uniform in World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
In August 2022, the Selectboard endorsed the proposed criteria for the addition of names to the Town Honor Roll.  So, we’re off to a good start.
